India’s giant Tata Steel has announced that it will keep paying salaries to the families of employees who die of COVID-19, until the deceased employee would have been 60 years old.

In a Twitter post, Tata Steel stated that it “has taken the path of agility with care by extending social security schemes to family members of the employees affected.” The company is urging people to help others around them in any way they can to “get through these tough times”.

In addition to the salaries, the company will cover the expenses of the deceased employee’s children’s education, until graduation in India.

Tata Steel is an Indian-owned multinational steel-making company. It is headquartered in Mumbai with operations in many Indian cities and abroad.

India is one of the countries being hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, with the number of infections second only to the U.S. and the third highest number of deaths, behind the U.S. and Brazil, with over 315,000. This is about 9% of the global COVID-19 death toll.
