The state-run Transport Company has increased bus and passenger van trips to about 4,500 by making available an additional 700 vehicles to accommodate up to 100,000 passengers expected to use public transport today (Tuesday) and tomorrow for travel before the Songkran Day on Thursday.
The Transport Company’s managing director, Sanlak Panwattanalikit, said today that the number of passengers using the bus services at the company’s five bus terminals in Bangkok are expected to increase to an average of 60,000 a day today and tomorrow as people travel back home to celebrate Songkran.
Yesterday, 3,440 bus and passenger van trips were provided to 40,819 passengers on out-bound journeys from Bangkok and 3,369 in-bound trips for 35,718 passengers, he said, adding that there were sufficient services and no passengers were left behind.
During the Songkran festival, Sanlak said that officials have been instructed to provide convenient and safe services to the passengers, adding that bus operators, drivers in particular, have been told to follow the law strictly as far as public safety is concerned, or face punishment.
All ticket booths at bus terminals were told to display ticket prices clearly, to prevent passengers from being overcharged during Songkran.
He also said that passengers who have encountered service problems can lodge complaints with the company.
